Downloading games for iPhone or iPod touch is usually a cheap risk. Best case scenario, you end up with an effective and distracting time-waster; worst case, you're out a buck or three with a dud game relegated to the library of iTunes. I've got quite a few duds collecting iDust.
One awesome exception to my tendency to misfire on games is a game called Touchgrind. Despite it's weirdly semi-sexual name, "Touchgrind" is a great little fingerboard app (fingerboard? jeez, I guess Touchgrind is better than Fingerboard). Using two fingers, you control the little skateboard on a course filled with obstacles, rails, hips, kickers, and unusual ramp configurations. Although it's hard to navigate the park, since you can only see what's directly around you while you're moving, the finger ollies, kickflips, rail grinds, nose blunts, crooked grinds and shove-its make it a pretty fun game to play when you're waiting somewhere that you'd rather not make eye contact with people.
The pros: Unlockable boards, customizable board, realistic sounds, cool interface, & dude, it's a street skate game.
The cons: Only one skate park (as of now), hard to navigate at first, $4.99 price tag is slightly high, & it's called "Touchgrind."
It's my favorite game, though. I play it more than Flight Control, more than Topple, and more than Flick Fishing (all of which, I like). If you're not into skateboarding? No idea if this is for you. Your call, bro.
